It is so hard to come up with a top 5 or even a top 10, but I can assure you Justin Hayward would be on mine, probably as number one.

I also love James Taylor, Freddie Mercury, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and many many more.

Anddd as a duo I love John Lennon & Paul McCartney, Hall & Oats, and Simon & Garfunkel.

I like Greg Lake too. Going back in time how about Judy Garland?

Greg Lake is my #1 choice.

I also like early Jon Anderson, Robert Plant, and John Lennon (and so many people have copied his voice).
To add someone new: Chris Cornell
To add someone old: Billie Holliday

Staying with old: Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong was a great scat singer.

I wouldn't say my tastes for vocalists are refined, but I really like how Ian Anderson sings.  i also think the singer for Queens of the Stone Age (his name escapes me...Josh Hommes?) has a pretty good voice, and same with the vocalist from Radiohead (gah I never bothered to learn his name).

Thom Yorke is Radiohead's singer, and I definitely agree with you there. Have you ever listened to the Muse? I really like that singer, you could say he is very passionate. But not sure if you'd be into that kind of music...I haven't listened to a lot of Queens of the Stone Age, only their hits.

I also agree with all of those old timers. Great voices, we need more modern female singers with voices like Billy and Ella rather that Jessica Simpson and Brittney Spears and what have you.

Also good call with Chris Cornell. He'd probably be in my top ten.

Paul Gonzenbach from the jim yoshii pile-up has a really beautiful voice [and a mind for lyrics that compliments it perfectly]
Aaron Scott from MARATHON has some really powerful vocals.
Chuck Ragan, not during Hot Water Music, but his solo stuff has an amazing voice. it's not clean or pretty by any means, but there's just so much passion in his vocals. I can't help but love it.
....actually, in his work with Hot Water Music as well.
