I know that some of our visitors are fans of the great jazz and fusion guitarist John McLaughlin. Prior to now, there didn't exist a place for McLaughlin fans to congregate and discuss his music, but I recently set up the 'John McLaughlin Fan Forums'. After nearly a 40 year hiatus, the mellotron is back in production! What is a mellotron? A mellotron is a keyboard of sorts that works by using cycling prerecorded tape replay rather than strings or electronics. It is responsible for those melancholy strings you hear on Led Zeppelin’s “The Rain Song” or the ominous orchestral wailings of King Crimson’s “Epitaph”. This instrument has also been employed by bands such as Yes, The Moody Blues, and Rush throughout the years. |
